Curriculum Philosophy
Our curriculum is designed around engaging, theme‑based learning that embraces the importance of learning through play. Play is essential for preschoolers as it nurtures creativity, problem‑solving, and critical thinking skills in a natural, engaging way. Through hands‑on activities, children explore the world around them, developing social skills, emotional resilience, and self‑expression while strengthening fine and gross motor skills. Themes seamlessly integrate art, music, sensory play, and movement, building connections across literacy, math, science, and problem‑solving concepts. This approach fosters a love for learning, encourages curiosity, and supports developmental milestones. With flexible lessons tailored to individual learning paces, children thrive in a nurturing environment that promotes social skills, emotional awareness, and independence, building a strong foundation for lifelong learning.
Program Notes
- Pre‑Wee class will focus on colors and shapes.
- Pre‑K classes will also incorporate phonological awareness.
Spanish Enrichment Information
Program Overview
The Spanish enrichment component complements our Wee Folks and Pre‑K programs for both native and second‑language learners. Children engage in fun, exciting activities—stories, music, movement, and art—that build a positive association with learning a second language and ease transition into a dual‑language program. We weave numbers, colors, shapes, and thematic vocabulary from our preschool curriculum to introduce Spanish.
Daily Schedule Integration
- Arrival: Students are greeted in both English and Spanish.
- Art: Spanish is used in a hands‑on, creative setting to introduce common classroom utensils, simple directions, and thematic vocabulary.
- Circle Time: Morning greeting, calendar, and the job board alternate between English and Spanish. Letter of the week and all phonics instruction are English‑only. Monthly color, number, and shape are practiced in both languages.
- Seatwork (Pre‑K only): Reinforces letter recognition, phonics, number and math concepts, writing, and fine‑motor development. As comfort with Spanish grows, teachable moments are used to increase understanding of simple directions and the concepts being practiced.
- Group Time: Stories, songs, games, and movement activities reinforce the monthly theme in English and Spanish.
- Dismissal: Goodbyes are in both English and Spanish.
Fun Facts
- Learning a second language can help children make new friends and connect with people from other cultures.
- Learning a new language can stimulate brain development, improving memory, focus, and critical thinking skills.
- Young children naturally absorb language, making it easier to learn a second language at a young age.
